Javier Hugo Ruiz, lovingly known as Hugo, passed away on November 11, 2024, at the age of 65. Born on March 25, 1959, to the late Jesus Ruiz and Hilda Delgado, Hugo was raised with a strong sense of family and community, values he carried throughout his life. He is survived by his brothers, J. Edgar Ruiz (Rosie) and Alvaro "Beto" Ruiz (Becky). He was predeceased by his brother Oscar Ruiz (Mary).

Hugo was a proud 1979 graduate of PSJA High School, Home of the Bears, where he was a member of the PSJA Marching Band. His pride in his alma mater endured over the years, as he continued to be a loyal supporter of the Bears' football team. Hugo cherished these connections and the community spirit they brought.

With a deep appreciation of nature, Hugo was an avid gardener who found joy in nurturing life around him. He was a dedicated member of the PSJA Maintenance Department at Memorial High School, where he served for 12 years, contributing to the school’s environment and earning the respect and gratitude of colleagues and students alike.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at DHR Hospital, All Valley Home Health agency, and the Hidalgo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care. Special thanks to Hugo’s longtime health provider, Maria D. Policarpo, for her devoted service and friendship.

Those who knew Hugo will always remember his beautiful smile and loving heart. He loved deeply—his family, friends, and community—leaving a legacy of warmth, kindness, and cherished memories. He will be profoundly missed.

Visitation with family will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 3:30pm to 6pm with a memorial service to be held at 4pm at De Leon Funeral Home.
