Efrain “Red” Zarate, 68, got his wings to go home on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at University Hospital in San Antonio to be with his parents, Luz and Refugio Zarate; brothers, Refugio (Tio Cookie) Zarate, Jr. and Sebastian Marquez; and brother-in-law, Xavier Aguilar.
He was an awesome father and grandfather, loving brother, and uncle. He is survived by his children, Esmer Zarate and Daniel Zarate; grandchildren, Patricio A. Perez and Anita Luz Garcia; loving brothers and sisters, Leticia (Joel) Spencer, Imelda Aguilar, Aida Burns, Hortencia Torres, Juan (Eyna) Zarate, Hugo (Juanita) Zarate, Luis Fernando Zarate, Joel Zarate, Alfonso Marquez, and Rogelio Zarate; and several nieces and nephews. He was an amazing person, friendly, and caring. He would try to help as best as he could when possible. He will be missed by many of his family and friends.
Visitation will be from 4pm to 9pm with a 7pm rosary on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at De Leon Funeral Home. Cremation services will follow.
